It’s On Us:

To RECOGNIZE that non-consensual sex is sexual assault.

To IDENTIFY situations in which sexual assault may occur.

To INTERVENE in situations where consent has not or cannot be given.

To CREATE an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported.

It’s On Us

Not Alone

The fear and confusion on their face is haunting. For people who had lived a simple hunting and gathering lifestyle, with little European interaction, the rest of their lives must’ve seemed like a surreal nightmare.

White History

Abducted by aliens.

White history

I really want to know who these people are/what happened to them

SO I DID A BIT OF DIGGING AND HOLY SHIT. THE SELK’HAM PEOPLE WERE WIPED OUT IN A MASS GENOCIDE.
LIKE… THEY ARE NO MORE. THE DESCENDENTS OF THIS COUPLE DO NOT EXIST.
AN ENTIRE LANGUAGE. AN ENTIRE CUISINE. AN ENTIRE WAY OF LIFE. WIPED AWAY.
YA’LL WANT SOME FUCKING WHITE HISTORY MONTH? HERE IS SOME GOD DAMN WHITE HISTORY FOR YOU TO PUT NEXT TO ALL THOSE SHINNY IMAGES OF THESE WHITE MEN WHO “DISCOVERED THE WORLD”.
HANG THIS IMAGE IN ALL THE DAMN CLASSROOMS. I’M DONE.

But “NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE”, right?

I got dressed in my traditional Indian regalia, but there was a man, he was the producer of the whole show. He took that speech away from me and he warned me very sternly. “I’ll give you 60 seconds or less. And if you go over that 60 seconds, I’ll have you arrested. I’ll have you put in handcuffs.”

- Sacheen Littlefeather in Reel Injun (2009), dir. Neil Diamond.

They were MAD, CONFUSED AND PRESSED that Marlon Brando would betray White Supremacy in this way.

To this very day, they are TWISTED over this.

And when Littlefeather got up there and READ THEM FOR FILTH, they GAGGED. For eons.

So I imagine there are people like me out there who’ve never even heard of Marlon Brando and are extremely confused over why this is important.

Marlon Brando was the Don in The Godfather, and in 1973, he was nominated for and won an Academy Award for it. However, he was also a huge Natives rights activist, and boycotted the ceremony because he felt that Hollywood’s depictions of Native Americans in the media led to the Wounded Knee Incident (which I was always taught as “the second massacre at Wounded Knee” but apparently that’s not the real name). He sent Sacheen Littlefeather, an Apache Native rights activist, in his stead. Wikipedia’s article on her explains the rest:

Brando had written a 15-page speech for Littlefeather to give at the ceremony, but when the producer met her backstage he threatened to physically remove her or have her arrested if she spoke on stage for more than 60 seconds.[5] Her on-stage comments were therefore improvised. She then went backstage and read the entire speech to the press. In his autobiography My Word is My BondRoger Moore (who presented the award) claims he took the Oscar home with him and kept it in his possession until it was collected by an armed guard sent by the Academy.

That is what this gifset is about.

You have GOT to read up on this. The Wounded Knee Incident, Marlon Brando and Sacheen Littlefeather, Anna Mae Aquash. ALL OF IT.

There is a reason you haven’t heard of this. Educate yourself, educate others, share knowledge, spread power.

Aiya Van Kooten everyone

When Aiya Van Kooten stood face-to-face with a burglar in her bedroom, her left eye twitched, then she went into “predator mode”.
“I screamed at him… jumped off my chair, leaped over my bed and sprinted after him down the stairs,” she said.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/8626910/Predator-mode-scares-off-burglars

This is the best story of my life

“Although she was the only one home, Van Kooten said she had no regard for her safety - instead, she said she was just overwhelmed with “rage“….. ummmmm Hero!!!

Haha, badass Muslim woman. Love it!!!

This lady is so awesome. She lives with her grandma and was studying and had a towel on her head and no shoes but she chased them out of her garden, kicked one up the arse as he climbed a fence, they dropped a camera and laptop, she flagged down a passing driver to help her continue the pursuit, and it turned out he was ex-military, and they finally caught one of them in a park and pinned him as the police arrived. Now she’s going to visit the burglar in prison for the next few months to help with his rehabilitation.
So in summary:
This lady doesn’t just defend her home and loved ones, she will hunt you down, team up with other skilled individuals, get you put away, and then teach you the consequences of your actions until you’re a valuable member of society once more.
Seriously she’s a frigging superhero.

Things To Remember

wittyandcharming:

  • Don’t be angry at yourself when anxiety/depression flares up. It isn’t your fault and no one blames you and if they do they’re pieces of shit.
  • Don’t orbit around your perceived value so much. You’re not the sum total of what you produce.
  • Don’t let yourself wonder why people love you. That’s not how it works. There are not stark, individual reasons that a person can enumerate about why they love you. It’s the entire, unique combination of what and who you are.

This. I need to remember all of this.

"We cannot condemn our children, and their children, to a future that is beyond their capacity to repair." —President Obama at the U.N. on America’s Climate Action Plan and the need for all countries to join in the fight against climate change

I know our government is kind of incompetent, but at least it’s something. How do we radicalize existing social structures and institutions in the here and now in real-time. Because what we need is not rapid carbon emission decrease, but rather elimination. Every year we continue to add to the greenhouse gases that are insulating our planet, be are essentially CONTINUING TO COOK OURSELVES ALIVE. How do we stop ourselves and turn this ship around? I’m serious…does anyone have any ideas? I think the first few things need to be:Public transit so we don’t have to rely on carsEducation that is environmentally based and sensitiveHuge investment in green jobs sector, which do not necessarily have to be highly technical (eg manual labors, receptionists, janitors for new green state and federal buildings, gardeners employed by local authorities to maintain public green spaces and gardens…etc)

Police arrest 104 climate change protesters in Wall Street standoff: NYC police pepper-spray protesters heading for Wall Street, day after massive separate march for climate change action

Police arrested more than 100 protesters who refused orders to disperse Monday, as at least 1,000 demonstrators gathered in New York City to demand that Wall Street start pitching in cash to stop climate change and that polluting companies clean up their act. The arrests came a day after tens of thousands of people marched peacefully through the city to call for governments to act on global warming, ahead of this week’s U.N. summit on the issue.
A physical confrontation came near the end of a day of boisterous but peaceful demonstrations, styled after the Occupy Wall Street movement of 2011 and dubbed “Flood Wall Street,” in keeping with the climate change theme. Many protesters wore blue.
After gathering in Battery Park, at the southern tip of Manhattan island, the protesters walked north on Broadway, stopping traffic along the way. They sat down in the street, but police did not issue orders to leave.

Just as rush hour began in downtown Manhattan on Monday evening, police used barricades and officers on horseback to block protesters from entering Wall Street itself.
